The Populorum Progressio Foundation for Latin America and the Caribbean was expressly founded by Saint John Paul II in 1992 on the occasion of the fifth centenary of the evangelization of the American Continent. The Foundation’s headquarters are located at the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, while the Operations Secretariat is based in Bogotà , Colombia. With the collaboration of the Italian Episcopal Conference, the Foundation aims at promoting the integral human development of the communities of farmers (campesinos), the indigenous peoples and African Americans of Latin America and the Caribbean, bearing witness to the closeness of the Pope through the works of charity that are accomplished. The Foundation collaborates with all those who are aware of the conditions of the vulnerable populations of Latin America, and who wish to contribute to their integral human development.
